Family Wellness

During this crisis where we are finding ourselves having to share our space and learn to accept extended times of closeness and endless days as a tight family unit, I thought I would share with you all some of the skills from my family wellness workshops.  These are great little lessons from the herd where we may find little takeaways or bites of value that we can apply to our current environment.

Well balanced and harmonious relationships come through good listening, respect for your environment and each other, by understanding how we interact with one another and the setting of clear boundaries. These may not be naturally occurring in the most beneficial way for your family, and can have a negative impact on everyday life. There is immense benefit in exploring these concepts in a safe and open space, and spending time on making conscious choices about the influences these choices have in your home. We will step through the concepts that will both enlighten and empower you for a happier more harmonious home.   I will post each of the 6 concepts in individual blogs the follow, but here is the first one

Balance

Horses need to balance to survive, they must balance safe play to prevent injury with enough play to build muscle and strength should they need to escape danger. Like us we need a healthy mix of activities and relationships to thrive.  This means we must become aware or conscious of where we put our energy and time.   A good exercise to see how balanced we are is to step back and systematically have a look at each of the areas in our life.  How are we doing? What is something that is out of balance.   The Wheel of Life is the perfect tool to begin your journey. Using this tool, you will be able to reflect and gain some insight into the balance of your life and how satisfied you are in life’s different areas.  You can find the Wheel of Life template here
